Turkish jets hit district in Kurdistan Region

Turkish fighter jets on Monday, March 26, hit areas in the district of Amedi in the Kurdistan Region.

Turkish warplanes conducted three airstrikes on Monday night on several areas in Amedi district, located 90 kilometers northeast of Duhok, NRT reported.

The airstrikes came one day after Turkish artillery’s bombardment wounded one person in the district.

Recently, the Turkish army has been shelling the Kurdistan Region’s border areas on the pretext of the presence of suspected Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) positions.

Last week, units of the Turkish military also entered approximately 15 kilometers into the Kurdistan Region.

On Thursday, March 22, four people including two Peshmerga were killed after Turkish warplanes shelled three villages in Qasre town in the district of Choman, northeast of the Kurdistan Region's capital city, Erbil.

The Turkish jets also shelled several areas in Bradost sub-district and Khwakurk as well as Gali Rash in the Kurdistan Region. A number of people evacuated their areas following the strikes.

Separately in Amedi district, Turkish fighting jets bombarded Nerwa Rekan area, destroying a bridge that had connected several villages to each other.
