US withdrawal from Iraq could make a new Afghanistan: official

The head of the Peshmerga Affairs Commission in the Kurdistan Regional Parliament stated that Iraq needs US military support and the early withdrawal of its combat troops from Iraq will create a huge gap for the army and Peshmerga forces in the fight against terrorism and it is feared that the Afghanistan's experience will be repeated.

"The American and Iraqi sides need to think seriously about the complete withdrawal of US troops from Iraq," Rifnek Herori said, adding that "it is because Iraq and the Kurdistan Region need US help, especially in providing air cover and logistical support. On the other hand, the threat of terrorist groups against Iraq remains strong," Today News reported.
"There is a security vacuum in the disputed areas between the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga forces, and terrorist groups can take advantage of the withdrawal of American troops from the area. Because the early withdrawal of US combat troops from Iraq will create a huge gap between the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga forces in the fight against terrorism," Rifnek Herori further noted.
Iraq needs the presence of American troops, and the withdrawal of US combat troops in the current situation will increase the activity of terrorist groups, and we are concerned about repetition og the experience in Afghanistan," he said.
