Three new ministries in Zaidi's cabinet; share of armed groups and Turkmens

The Iraqi Prime Minister is seeking to create three new ministries to allocate positions to armed groups and Turkmens; a plan that is said to cost the government more than 3 trillion dinars annually.

According to Kurdistan Press, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Zaidi is considering making changes to his cabinet structure by creating three new ministries; a move that, according to sources, is part of the agreements to include armed groups that have decided to lay down their arms and enter the political process.

According to reports, two of the three new ministries will be allocated to armed groups. A new ministry is to be created under the title of "Ministry of Artificial Intelligence" and this position will be given to Muhammad al-Daraji, the candidate of the Imam Ali Brigades. The tourism sector will also be separated from the Ministry of Sports and Youth and become an independent ministry, and this ministry is to be the share of the Sayyid al-Shuhada Brigades.

A third ministry has also been proposed under the title of “Ministry of State for Foreign Affairs” and is to be allocated to Turkmens. Mohammad Samaan has been introduced as a candidate for this position.

In this context, the Kurdistan Democratic Party is cautious about the creation of this ministry and believes that the creation of this new position may create obstacles and disrupt the activities of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In terms of economy, financial experts have also warned about the consequences of this decision.

According to them, the creation of three new ministries will impose an additional cost of more than 3 trillion dinars on the government annually; this is in a situation where Iraq is facing financial challenges and crises and there is an emphasis on reducing public spending.
