Iraqi troops sent to border to monitor Turkish incursions

Iraq National Security Council ordered on Sunday, September 16, Iraqi troops to be sent to the Turkish border to monitor activity in the area.

The Council, chaired by Prime Minister Haider Abadi, ordered that border guards be deployed along Iraq’s northern border to document Turkish violations of Iraqi airspace, the results of which will then be communicated to the United Nations, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister's office.
NRT reported that the border guards will additionally be tasked with preventing breaches of Iraqi sovereignty.
The Council further discussed the situation in Basra and what measures should be taken to protect citizens and private and public property.
