Pentagon warns of IS re-emerge in Iraq and Syria

The Pentagon has warned of resurgence of the jihadist group of Islamic State (IS) in both Iraq and neighboring Syria while the US has already decided to withdraw its forces from the region.

"Although it has lost its territory, IS has strengthened its rebellious capabilities in Iraq and resumed operations in Syria," reads a document by the Pentagon, as cited by New Europe.
It further pointed out that the extremist group is able to support terrorist activities and regroup itself in the two neighboring countries, one of the reasons could be, it said, that the local forces are not capable of sustaining long-term operations or hold the areas liberated from the jihadist group.
The IS group's reemergence coincides with a decision by Washington to withdraw the majority of its US troops from Syria.
The Syrian Kurdish forces, considered close allies of the US, criticized Washington's announcement of withdrawal of its soldiers.
