Turkey is against US oil sanctions on Iran: spokesman
Kalin told Bloomberg TV that Iran is a neighboring state of Turkey as well as major trade partner, as many bilateral economic agreements have been reached by them, voicing his country’s opposition to US new package of sanctions against Iran because the move will inflict many economic losses on the Turkish and European companies.
He also reiterated International Atomic Energy Agency’s frequent verification of Iran’s compliance with the JCPOA, saying that it seems US exit from the deal has other reasons, IRNA reported.
Meanwhile, Turkish Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekci said on Wednesday that US decision on Iran’s oil sanctions does not concern Turkey and it is not obliged to implement it.
Referring to US call on different countries to stop oil purchase from Iran by November, he added that the decision concerns US’ foreign trade ministry and has nothing to do with Turkey.
US officials have announced that Iran crude buyers should end their oil imports from Iran by November 4, or else they will be subject to US secondary sanctions.
US secondary sanctions drew criticism from different countries, as some of them are seeking to exclude themselves from the list and some have declared that they will not implement it.
