Unknown outlook for Iraqi Kurds in 2018: analyst
A Political Analyst who works on the events in the Middle East, Michael Johnson, does not expect a certain outlook for Kurds in Iraq, casting his doubt if talks resume between the central government in Baghdad and the Kurdish government in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan Region.
Writing an article in Irish Times, Johnson said he cannot foresee a good year for the Kurds in Iraq in 2018.
He went on to add that the closure of the airports of the region and the economic crisis in the region and the resignation of three political parties from the government of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani are the troubles that the region is grappling with.
The analyst also warned against internal rifts among the political parties in the region, calling it a serious hurdle on the unity of Iraqi Kurds against Iraq.
Johnson further added Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi is enjoying the support of the U.S. and therefore can pressure Kurds.
