Civilians killed as Turkish jets bomb Kurdistan Region

Turkish warplanes bombed several areas in Sinjar and Makhmour in Kurdistan Region, northern Iraq, on Thursday night, December 13.

One of the airstrikes hit near a refugee camp in Makhmour, according to a source. Firat News Agency later reported that three Kurdish fighters form the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) had been killed in the airstrike and another wounded.

The other strikes were in Girizer and Gali Shlun in Sinjar.

Meanwhile another report stated that 4 women were killed in the attack; they were buried on Friday in a funeral ceremony.

A source in Makhmour told NRT that warplanes had been spotted circling the area since yesterday.

“Our air force has bombed Shingal and Qarachukh mountain in order to protect our borders,” the Turkish defense ministry said in a statement.
