Security Council member underscores Kurds right in Kirkuk

The president of Kirkuk provincial Security Council Commission blames attempts that have marginalized Kurds in the province who own the majority of seats in the provincial council and the Iraqi parliament, warning that Kurds would no longer accept the situation in Kirkuk.

Speaking with Kurdpress, Azad Jabbari said the recent decision by the Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadi to replace Iraqi army and Hashd al-Shaabi with police federal forces in Kirkuk is not so important and would not change the situation in Kirkuk since according to him the name of the forces, but not the situation, changed.

He further asked the Iraqi central government to return the Kurdish forces of Peshmerga to the city in order to control the province in cooperation with Iraqi and anti-IS coalition forces which ‘will normalize the situation in Kirkuk.’

He also blamed the Iraqi government for not engaging the Kurds in the developments and making decisions in Kirkuk and stated that an old Baath official, Rakan al-Jabouri, enjoys all powers in the province.

Jabbari also lashed out at Shiite side in Iraq for ignoring the Kurds who were an old ally of the Shiites and cooperated with them in hard times.
