HDP spokesman Osman Baydemir released

Osman Baydemir, the spokesman of Turkey pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), was released on Sunday, January 7, one day after his detention in Izmir over charges of allegedly organizing “illegal” meetings and gatherings.

He was released after testifying earlier on Sunday during a court hearing in Sirnak via video link, NRT said.

Turkish police arrested Baydemir over a verdict issued against him on December 27 in Izmir where he was attending HDP activities.

Selahattin Demirtas, HDP co-leader, was detained in a police raid on November 4, last year and has been in jail since then, pending trial. He recently announced he intends to quit the party.
