Syrian Kurds should not trust US
The U.S. decided to leave 400 forces in Syria after President Donald Trump announced in a surprised decision that Washington would withdraw its forces from war-torn Syria and the decision provoked harsh criticisms from U.S. allies, including the Kurdish-led forces of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The English-language Ahram Weekly wrote in an article that the U.S. is not reliable and there is no guarantee that the White House would not change the decision.
The daily added that the U.S. decision to withdraw from Syria and leave the Kurdish allies alone was like Trump’s decision not to back independence referendum of the Kurds in Iraq and the expel of the Kurdish forces of Peshmerga from Kirkuk, a province in northern Iraq, in September 2018.
The weekly finally warned 400 U.S. forces cannot prevent a possible Turkey attack into northern Syria and the U.S. would begin a war with its NATO ally Turkey for the sake of the Kurds.
