Kurdistan Islamic Union seeking to make fundamental changes in Kurdistan Region, leader tells Kurdpress

Commenting on the negotiations between the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Movement for Change (Gorran) over the formation of the next government in Kurdistan Region, Shirko Jewdet told Kurdpress that his party has decided to remain an opposition party and will not be a part of the next government in the government of the autonomous region in the north of Iraq.

Being an opposition means attempting to change the system and the current ruling system in the region, he said, expressing his hope that the negotiation among the next parties in the government of the region would benefit the people of the region not the parties and their interests.

He went on to add that the party would attempt in the local parliament to annul the law which saves a part of the salaries of the government clerks and employers which has been put into action in the past years on the pretext of economic crisis in the region.

Passing the constitution of the region in the parliament is another plan that the Kurdistan Islamic Union would work on, the official said, continuing to stress that fighting against corruption would be the next priority of the party in the parliament.

Jewdet added that the Islamic party has decided to be an active opposition in following people’s demands and blaming the government and not step back from fighting against economic corruption and do its best in this regard, underscoring that tensions between the ruling and opposition parties of the region would ultimately benefit the people in the region.
