US wants Erbil and Baghdad to control Kirkuk jointly: PUK official
A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in the Iraqi parliament stated that the deputy of the US envoy to Iraq has called for quick solution of tensions in the disputed city of Kirkuk and has called for joint control of the city by both Baghdad and Erbil, Kurdistan Region capital.
The PUK Deputy, Ribwar Taha, told NRT that a delegation of Kurdish, Turkmen and christian deputies in the Iraqi parliament met the U.S. official in Baghdad where he called for the normalization of the situation in Kirkuk and the joint control of the city.
Taha further stressed the US wants to have the political, security and official troubles in Kirkuk to be settled and the Iraqi federal police control the city of Kirkuk and the Kurdish forces of Peshmera and Iraqi army to control its vicinity.
