KDP gives deadline to PUK to sign political agreement

Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has given the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) 24-hours to sign the political agreement that was announced last week, a PUK parliament member told a PUK-affiliated media.

Whether it participates in a scheduled session of the Kurdistan Parliament on Wednesday, April 10, depends on if the agreement is signed, the reports added.

“The Leadership Council and the Political Bureau will decide whether the PUK will take part in tomorrow’s session, which will vote on the Kurdistan presidency law,” PUK lawmaker Balambo Muhammad told party media on Tuesday.

Muhammad also said that the parties are supposed to meet Tuesday or Wednesday before the start of the session.

“Our caucus will decide whether to participate in the Parliament’s session after the meeting,” he added.

PUK spokesman Latif Sheikh Omer told NRT on Monday, April 8, that an expected signing ceremony has been delayed for protocol reasons without giving further details.

“The agreement will be signed this week, but no date has been set,” Omer said.

The PUK Leadership Council approved the agreement with the KDP during a meeting on Saturday, which was followed by approvals from the Political Bureau and the Central Committee.
