Turkish, US delegations begin meetings in Washington
The first meeting started at 11:00 and took one hour, Hurriyet daily reported.
“We can confirm that a Turkish delegation will meet with State Department officials today,” U.S. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said on August 8. “The meeting will be led by our deputy secretary, John Sullivan,” she added.
Separately, a U.S. Treasury official said:”I can confirm Treasury officials are meeting with the Turkish delegation today.”
Officials from Turkey’s justice, finance and foreign ministries make up the nine-member delegation, which traveled to Washington after U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu held a phone call on Aug. 6.
“It’s certainly a good thing that the secretary and the foreign minister were able to have a phone call yesterday,” Nauert told journalists.
