KRG cabinet will be formed before Eid al-Fitr: spokesman

Spokesperson for the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Mahmoud Muhammad predicted on Monday, April 22, that the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will be formed before Eid al-Fitr.

“The agreements will wrap up in the coming two days,” he told NRT.
“The Change Movement [Gorran] and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan [PUK] can now understand the situation,” he said, adding that “there is no need for further [bilateral] meetings.”
“What we need is a joint [trilateral] meeting because the affairs of the government should be discussed in that meeting.”
Regarding the possible participation of the Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG) in the new cabinet, the KDP spokesperson said: “We have paid visits to them and they have visited us. We are waiting for a reply from them about whether they will join the government.”
Emir of the KIG Ali Bapir urged his party on Monday not to join the new government.
“We are trying to form the government before Eid al-Fitr,” Muhammad concluded.
More than 204 days have passed since the Kurdistan parliamentary election.
Also on Monday, KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani said that the delay in forming the government was “normal.”
