Supreme court only entity to decide on reelection: Iraqi spokesman

A spokesman for Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said that the Supreme Federal Court is the only entity that has the right to decide whether a parliamentary election can be re-run.

“This is a matter for the Federal Court and not for the executive branch or any other entity,” Saad al-Hadithi told Reuters on Monday, June 11.
His comments came one day after Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri called for a rerun of the parliamentary election held on May 12, after a fire broke out at one of the electoral commission’s storage sites in Baghdad.
