Kurdistan independence referendum would not be postponed: KDP official
A Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official stated that the independence referendum of Kurdistan Region, in the north of Iraq, would never be postponed.

Xushwi Xelil told Baghdad al-Yaum news base that all political parties of the region, but the Movement for Change (Gorran) and the Kurdistan Islamic Community (KIC), are in favor of holding the referendum, adding that the KDP is not to decide but Gorran does not have the right to oppose the referendum on behalf of the other parties as the opposition is a Gorran-related affair.

It is a usual for Baghdad and Erbil, the capital of the region, to hold bilateral talks and to make joint agreements after the referendum, he said about a possible visit of a Kurdish delegation from Baghdad.

The political parties of the region, except Gorran and the KIC, decided on June 7 to hold the referendum of independence on September 25 when the people of the region would decide if they want to remain as Iraqi citizens or establish their independent state.
