Abadi did not oppose referendum: KDP official
The chief of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) public relation stated that Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has not opposed to the scheduled referendum of Kurdistan Region but prefers it to be postponed.

A delegation from the Kurdistan Region arrived in Baghdad on Monday and met Abadi late that day. The delegation is to discuss the planned referendum of the region which is to be held on September 25.

Saeed Mamozini told al-Ghad Press news agency that the delegation has discussed different issues with the Iraqi PM, including the referendum.

The KDP official added that Abadi is prefers the referendum to be postponed as the war against the Islamic State (IS) is still going on.

The Kurdish delegation has reiterated, in the meeting, on holding the referendum on the planned date, he said.
