Barzani’s insistence to quit Iraq would divide Kurdistan Region: official
A parliament deputy from the Iraqi Sunni coalition stated that Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani to hold the scheduled referendum of the region and establish a Kurdish state in the north of Iraq would divide the autonomous region.

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) decided on June 7 to hold a referendum on September 25 in the region in the north of Iraq and ask the region’s people if they want to have an independent state or want to remain in a united Iraq.

That decision has irked the central government in Baghdad and sparked opposition from regional stated and international powers.

The deputy, Abdulrahman al-Lwaizi, stated in a press conference that Barzani’s insistence has angered Kurdistani parties and his international alliances that’s why his persistence would divide the region and only Erbil, the capital of the region, and some parts of Kirkuk would accompany him in the scheduled referendum.
