Barzani seeking to pressure Baghdad through referendum: deputy
An Iraqi parliament deputy from the National Coalition Alliance stated that Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani’s plan to hold the referendum of independence is an attempt to pressure Baghdad for achieving more privileges.

Ibtesam al-Helali told al-Tejah Press that Barzani is disappointed after regional and international oppositions to the planned referendum of the region set for September 25, calling the attempt as illegal and against the Iraqi constitution.

Helali further reiterated that Barzani has not fulfilled his promises to the federal government in Baghdad to pay oil revenues and the incomes which are made from border gates, adding that Kurds in the region are suffering from its political crisis.
