Kurdistan Region referendum is a failed effort: former deputy
A former Iraqi Turkman parliament deputy has stated that the planned referendum of the Iraqi northern region of Kurdistan, set for September 25, is a failed effort and would lead into no avail.

Fawzi Akram Tarzi told Aqdas al-Arabi daily that the decision is a failed attempt which aims to export the region’s internal crises and legalize Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani’s term which has already ended.

Reiterating that Kurdistani leaders are trying to annex the disputed regions into the region, he stated that the efforts are attempt to make Iraq face the conducted action and make Erbil control all other regions in some parts of Iraq.

Tarzi further noted that some Kurdistani parties, including Gorran (Movement for Change) and the Islamic Community, and some world powers and regional states are against the annex of the disputed region into Kurdistan region and Erbil’s attempt to hold the referendum of independence.
