New round of Syrian talks to be held in May: Russian official
The head of the Russian delegation at the peace talks on Syria in Kazakhstan, Alexander Lavrentyev, said on Wednesday, March 15, that delegations from Russia, Turkey and Iran have scheduled the next meeting for May.

some of the Russian, Turkish and Iranian delegates would remain in Astana for meetings with rebels, the official added.

Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry said that Syria's rebel delegation was expected in Astana on Wednesday night for peace talks this week aimed at ending the six-year civil war. The rebels will come for consultations with Russia, Turkey and Iran, Reuters reported.

The Syrian opposition had previously said it would skip the talks and accused Moscow of failing to uphold a ceasefire brokered last December.

The current round of talks was originally scheduled to end on Wednesday.

Syrian government negotiator Bashar al Ja'afari said his delegation had not discussed a constitutional commission for the war-torn state during the latest round of Syria peace talks in Astana.

Speaking in the Kazakh capital, Ja'afari said the only document the Syrian government delegation had discussed with Russia was related to de-mining cultural heritage sites.
