Japan to open consulate general in Erbil today
Within its planning to further expand ties with Kurdistan Region, the Japanese government will open its consulate general in Erbil on Wednesday January 11.

During a meeting with Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, the Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kentaro Sonoura, announced that his country’s consulate General will start functioning on Wednesday, January 11.

He also promised the KRG of Japan’s continued humanitarian support as it values hosting millions of refugees and IDPs by the Kurdish government, BasNews reported.

Sonoura said several Japanese strategic projects are currently being implemented across Kurdistan Region, and further investments will be made once the Islamic State (IS) is completely defeated in Mosul.
