On Thursday, Barzani met Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and they discussed bilateral relations, regional developments and Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and its actions into Turkey. National Intelligence Agency (MIT) Undersecretary Hakan Fidan also participated in Erdogan-Barzani meeting, Anatolia News Agency reported.
Barzani visited Turkey ahead of a June conference in Arbil where all Kurdish blocs would participate to discuss Kurdish policy and the situation of the Kurds in the new Middle East. During the conference, Barzani is expected to call on PKK to lay down arms.
Massoud Barzani also discussed Kurdistan Region and Turkey relations with Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in the two-and-a-half-hour meeting in Ankara.
Most of the Turkish media wrote that solving PKK problem with Turkey tops Barzani’s Agenda in his visit to Ankara.
Barzani’s visit to Turkey is at a time that Iraqi fugitive vice president Tariq al-Hashimi is in Ankara and is due to have a meeting with Kurdistan region’s president whom Hashimi has been a quest after the vice president left Baghdad for Arbil and rejected to face trial in Iraq capital as Hashimi believes the courts there are under Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s influence.
